About Us
Goochland Fire-Rescue consists of six fire
and rescue squads which are
housed and function together to provide fire protection and emergency
medical care.
This arrangement
not only avoids costly duplication of buildings and equipment, but provides
our volunteers the option to be cross-trained in both fire and rescue
skills. More than half of our volunteers can perform in both capacities.
Each company elects
its own officers for administrative functions. Department and company
officers provide supervision and guidance to fire fighter and EMT volunteers.
How We Serve
Goochland Fire-Rescue
provides 24 hour fire and emergency medical services to all of Goochland County.
We cooperate with surrounding counties to
provide and receive mutual aid as needed.
Our rescue squads
provide pre-hospital emergency care for a full range of medical emergencies
including Advanced Life Support and special cardiac care. Several of our
rescue volunteers are certified paramedics.
Our volunteers receive
professional quality training and must meet extensive training standards
in order to answer emergency calls. These standards are set by the Virginia
Office of EMS and Department of Fire Programs.
We have the people,
equipment and procedures to deal effectively with a wide range of life-safety
crises such as vehicle accidents, structure fires, illness and injury.
All services are provided free of charge.
In 2006, our 262 active fire and rescue volunteers
responded to 969 fire calls (a total of 1,049 station
responses), and treated 2,300 patients. There were 1,414
patients transported, with 584 of those requiring advanced
life support services.
We are funded by
a combination of tax dollars and tax deductible donations.
The administrative
office is located at 2938 River Road West, Building
I. Office hours are 8:00 to
5:00, Monday
through Friday.
